You get to work with a fabulous, highly motivated team and experience the fulfilment of creating positive change in our little community in Thekkur village. We have 250 enthusiastic students from kindergarten to Grade 5. We carry out many projects in the village to uplift our students' mothers and provide basic facilities to the local community. Our school is located an easy one hour’s drive from the cities of Madurai and Trichy, both of which have international airports.
"I had an incredible experience leading a team of 6 volunteers and working with Educate to Empower Academy students to paint a colourful, inspiring mural. Passerbys and other members of the community came to check out the mural with curiosity. In a country where underprivileged woman are at the bottom of the food chain, it was wonderful to see the happiness on the girls faces as they watched the artwork come to life and realise this was being done just for them. We hope that the mural inspired the little girls to not only be creative, but to also take control of their own lives and futures. Through my art, I showed the girls a diversity of careers they could pursue, ranging from conservation of India's endangered Bengal Tigers, to leading space missions and taking on STEM roles. I highly recommend you volunteer with this school if you get the opportunity to do so."
